One month to go!

One month to go until Narwhal casts off on the start of her big adventure! Eek, writing that down makes in feel quite scarily close. Surprisingly it is not the prospect of the unknown adventure that is making me anxious, rather the amount of work still do be done to ensure that Narwhal is ready to face it head on. Hopefully not the wind too head on, everything is much nicer with that coming from behind! I'm even relatively confident that barring too many last minute hic ups, of which I am sure there will be a few, we will be able to get it all done. I think that what is bothering me most is that a whirlwind of final filling of tanks, loading of food, fine tuning the route and keeping an eagle eye on the weather forecast will fill so much of my brain that there won't be room left to experience the excitement of heading off into the unknown.

The first stage of the adventure will see Narwhal will be leaving her winter refit home in Shotley marina near Ipswich, turning left and heading up the East coast to Inverness, keeping an eye out for sandbanks, windfarms and gas rigs along the way. Then she will be heading to Oban on the west coast of Scotland via the Caledonian Canal. Part of the Caledonian Canal involves transiting through Loch Ness. It would be an exciting start to an adventure if we saw the famous monster. Don't worry I shall keep you posted if we do. We should at least be assured of some amazing scenery and plenty of locks as well as lochs.

Hope this doesn't happen to us!
