Sailing adventure - bird watching by boat in Scotland
By boat is a wonderful way to watch wildlife. Moving slowly as an integral part of their world you can get an up close perspective that is hard to get on land. Huge colonies of nesting puffins, guillemots and kittiwakes nest on towering sea cliffs are a sight best enjoyed by boat. Watch our guide to visiting one of our favourite ‘bird islands’ by boat:
The Shaint Islands
To the north west of Skye, these collection of small islands are a sea bird’s paradise. Even more so now that the islands have been declared rat free. Visiting these islands can be a challenge, there are no landing facilities and getting ashore can be a scramble. Watch our guide to where to anchor and options for getting your dinghy ashore.
Lunga is also a fabulous place to visit for bird watching. Spending time with the puffins on Lunga has been one of my most memorable sailing adventure experiences.
Wow, this is a real treat, in fact this seriously remote island outpost might be a once in a lifetime destination for most British birders. Keep your eyes peeled for our guides to these wonderful locations coming soomn.
